For those that do not know, on 9/4/12, The University if North Texas announced its 2012 Athletic Hall of Fame inductees. Included in this group was my dear friend, the late Walter Chapman (GP Class of ’73). Walter & I became good friends as the only two Grand Prairie teammates on the NTSU football team. My 1st year on the team was in 1972; Walter was recruited in 1973 by our new head coach Hayden Fry.

Once called "a 5-foot-10, 240-pound stick of dynamite" by Texas Football magazine, Walter was a quick, powerful defensive nose tackle who was a four-year starter for the Mean Green before, ultimately, earning All-American honors. He was named the Missouri Valley Conferences freshman Defensive Player of the Year in 1973 and first team All-MVC as a sophomore in 1974.

In 1973, while Walter w...as just a Freshman, we won the Missouri Valley Conference and received Championship Rings. It was something that we both cherished.

The 2012 Athletic Hall of Fame class will be recognized at North Texas' homecoming game against Arkansas State on November 3.
